I thought that I have to have some strong and durable clumps while building the band saw. Therefore I completed the steel clumps which I once started to make and left half done. They are the components cut in size and left. For 4 clumps. Main parts are soft steel flat bars, thicker ones are 3mm in thickness x W30mm, and thinner ones are 2mm in thickness x W20mm. I assembled by 4mm rivets. Welding or bolting is also good, I think, but riveting is the best for my skill. I made notches on the main bar so that it caches the slide jaw. I cut every 10mm by angle grinder. And filed these notches to shape to catch the slide jaw well. First I reduced the width of center part of 2x20 bar to 15mm and bent this part to shape U around 5mm dia. rod. Vise and hammer are used for this work. Finally I riveted 3mm thickness steel piece inside the bent flat bar and riveted. Then drilled 6.5mm dia. at this bent part. I tapped M8mm at this part. Of cause welding a nut is good if you have good welding skill. Bolt is set. The pad can move freely as it is assembled with screw by free moving washer which sandwiched washers. Washer is screwed on the wooden pad. Fixed side pad must be also a little movable to clump various shaped staff. Clumped some work. I is enough strong. Completed 4 clumps. I little shaped by grinder, but still not good looking I know. It is my concept that such items are enough good as long as they work and secure safety. Therefore I usually make such stuff with this idea. Of cause when I make daily used items such as furniture or for some other person with the maximum good looking. |
